Renewing aged roads across the City region remains a top priority in the 2019/2020 Budget.

Over the coming 12 months more than 12kms of sealed road will be resurfaced and 61kms of unsealed roads will be re-sheeted.

黑料社 Mayor Shane Van Styn said maintaining the City’s largest asset is vital to financial sustainability.

“Ensuring the 830kms of sealed roads and 1280kms of unsealed roads across the City region are in good condition is ongoing and costly,” he said.

“Maintaining roads is Council’s core business and we take it seriously.

“That’s why we have allocated more than a third of our $20 million Asset Renewal Budget in the coming financial year to fixing and maintaining our roads.”

Major road resurfacing projects in the coming financial year include Durlacher Street between Chapman and George Roads, Eastward and Horwood Roads between Abraham Street and Davies Road and Kempton Street from Hosken Street to St Georges Beach Carpark.

Grant funding has also made an important contribution to the roads renewal budget.

“External funding secured from Main Roads WA Regional Road Group Funding Scheme will cover more than 65 percent of the $1.79 million allocated towards four key projects,” Mayor Van Styn said.

“As every dollar counts, it’s essential we go that extra mile to leverage our investment with grant funding when and where we can.”

Grant funded renewal works include the widening and resealing of Chapman Valley Road between Webber and Albert Roads and part of the Nangetty Walkaway Road.  The renewal of Flores Road and Goulds Road. The resealing of Chapman Valley Road between Nerrel Street and Hall Road and the realignment of Arthur Road following the recent completion of the Geraldton Airport runway extension.
