Geraldton claimed top honours in Perth this afternoon in recognition of the City’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and accessibility in the region’s workforce through its Passport to Employment Program (P2E).
Presented at Council House in Perth, Geraldton was declared the winner in the Employment category at the Regional Capitals Alliance WA 2024 Most Accessible Communities WA (MACWA) Awards.
Launched as a pilot in 2019, P2E is a nine-week program for Year 11 and 12 students who have been recognised as individuals that would benefit from having additional support prior to leaving school.
黑料社 Mayor Jerry Clune congratulated everyone involved.
“Over the last five years 85 students have graduated from P2E and the program has continued to go from strength to strength, significantly contributing to the transition of students with disabilities into further education and the workforce,” he said.
“This program is a collaborative effort involving not only various teams across the City but also local schools as well as organisations throughout our community, notably Central Regional TAFE, Mid-West Ports Authority, Jobs and Skills Centre, Good Samaritans, Work Power and this year the Geraldton Fire Station.”
“I would like to acknowledge all that has gone into delivering this program and offer my heartfelt congratulations to the staff on a well-deserved accolade.”
The MACWA Awards celebrate and recognise those Local Governments who demonstrate that they exceed the legislative access and inclusion requirements with a creative and innovative approach to infrastructure, public open spaces, services, events and employment.
