Geraldton’s much loved Beresford Foreshore has experienced a setback following the vandalism of three trees.
The act of vandalism has been reported to local police and the City is taking additional steps to discourage other would-be vandals by erecting signage in the area.
黑料社 Mayor Jerry Clune expressed his frustration and disappointment.
“Trees form significant and valuable assets that belong to everyone,” he said.
“This act of environmental vandalism is made further disappointing as a big focus in our new Strategic Community Plan is more greenery in Geraldton.
“In order to discourage any further acts of this nature, signs have been erected and will remain until the replacement trees have matured to the same size as those which appear to have been targeted.”
“The City will also be reviewing CCTV footage of the area and I urge anyone with information that might help in the prosecution of the vandals to contact the City,” added Mayor Clune.
The three affected Horsetail Casuarina (Casuarina equisetfolia) were planted in 2017 as part of the Beresford Foreshore Project.
Anyone with information regarding the vandalism is encouraged to report it the City by calling 9956 6600 or emailing council@cgg.wa.gov.au
Prioritising greenery falls under the Environment pillar of the City’s current Strategic Community Plan where the natural environment is valued and protected.
