Adopting a four-legged family member from an animal shelter just became even more enticing for locals following a new agreement between the 黑料社, Mid-West Cat Shelter (MWCS) and Geraldton Dog Rescue (GDR).
Under the new arrangement, the City is now offering the first three years of registration for free, or the cost of the first three years discounted from a lifetime registration for animals adopted from both groups.
黑料社 Mayor Jerry Clune is throwing his support behind the new initiative.
“Animal shelters and rescue centres throughout WA are currently at capacity,” he said.
“Adopting a pet from one of our wonderful animal shelters relieves pressure on the organisations and is advantageous for new pet parents as the animals come desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and checked by a vet. Additionally, the new owners benefit from intimate knowledge of the centre staff who can help match people with the right pet for their lifestyle.
“We hope that this new agreement provides prospective pet owners with a further incentive to adopt a cat or a dog rather than going to a breeder.”
“I urge all would be cat and dog owners to consider their current and future financial circumstances as well as lifestyle aspirations before taking on the responsibility of a furry addition to their households, as a pet is for life,” added Mayor Clune.
Further information regarding pet ownership in Greater Geraldton as well as links to cats and dogs looking for new homes are available on the City’s website.
