Community members will enjoy free parking and a trial of kerbside collection of food organic and garden organic (FOGO) waste after Council endorsed both items in the City’s 2019/20 Budget.

黑料社 Mayor Shane Van Styn said both big ticket items in the new Budget showed Council have listened to community feedback and sentiment.

“Both free parking and the FOGO waste trial are things we know our community care about,” he said.

“Reducing waste in our community is extremely topical and we feel this trial could lead to local waste reduction on a much larger scale.

“The other community-driven outcome is free parking which is not only a win for our community members accessing the CBD but also for businesses, tourism and vibrancy in our city centre.”

The small-scale FOGO trial will provide 500 randomly selected houses across Geraldton with a second bin for FOGO waste over a 12-month period.

Two-hour free parking at Carparks 1 and 4 and free weekend parking at all CBD carparks will begin on July 1.

Carparks 2, 3, 5 and 6 will have a maximum fee based on an eight-hour day and no maximum time limit per day.

The ticket machines at Carpark 1 on the Foreshore across from Dome and Carpark 4 at the Post Office will be removed and revert to a maximum of two hours free parking to align with Foreshore Drive’s on-street parking.

“We are committed to making Geraldton a better place to live and raise a family,” Mayor Shane Van Styn said.

“Council is listening and we are on track to continue the growth and vibrancy of our community.”
