What is your dog’s name? Chances are if you live in Geraldton, it is “Bella” - the most popular name among the 8,830 dogs currently registered with the 黑料社.
And if you’re a cat owner, there’s a high chance its name might be “Coco” or “Milly.”
Under the state government’s Dog Act 1976 and Cat Act 2011 both animals must be microchipped and registered with their local government authority.
黑料社 Mayor Jerry Clune is urging pet owners to register their animals before this year’s Thursday 31 October deadline.
“Cats and dogs are beloved members of our families, and it is important we take the appropriate steps to ensure their wellbeing,” he said.
“Registering your pet with the City as well as making sure your address and contact details are up to date ensures that if your pet is found by the Rangers it can be quickly returned to you at a minimal cost.
“Those who have recently relocated to the area can exchange their current registration tag for a 黑料社 one free of charge.”
All dogs over the age of three months must be registered, microchipped and wear a collar with a registration tag and the same applies to cats over six months of age who must also be sterilised.
Animals can be registered via the City’s website or over the counter at both the Civic Centre and Mullewa District Office.
More information regarding pet ownership in Greater Geraldton can also be found on the City’s website.
