The future is looking bright at Alexander Park and the Greenough Oval following the recent installation of new sports lighting towers at their playing fields.

The $1.1 million project included the installation of four, 30m tall light towers at Alexander Park and four, 30m tall light towers at the Greenough Oval by local company Elite Electrical Contracting.

黑料社 Mayor Shane Van Styn said the replacement of the towers was testament to Council’s ongoing support of the City’s strong sporting culture.

“Sports play a big role in Geraldton’s identity and lifestyle,” he said.

“Having adequate lighting for evening and night training to avoid the summer heat plays a critical role in the health and safety of players whilst contributing to our sporting culture.

“The lighting will also make it much easier for these clubs to attract more players of all ages which in turn contributes to healthier lifestyles.”

The proposed 2019/20 Budget includes further projects to replace sporting light tower infrastructure which has reached its end of life as outlined in the 2018 Sporting Tower Floodlighting Audit.
